Writing on Medium, it’s not just about the money

So I’ve reached over 300 followers. It was much easier than I could have imagined. I just tagged follow, follow for follow, followers. And the response was tremendous.

But here’s the big thing, is anyone actually reading my writing?

I’m not here just for the money. I’m working on a book, a memoir of my crazy life. I was a stripper in a abusive marriage, but my life was crazy even before that. Once I started writing my book, I realized I can help other people get out of their bad situations. It’s not about the money anymore. Now, I want people to read my story so that maybe they can see they are not alone and if I could get the courage to leave my abusive ex-husband they can too.

Yes, of course I want to get my book published once I finished it. Do I want to make millions from my story? Hell yeah! Don’t all writers want their work read? But it isn’t all about the money. When someone reads my chapters from the book and responds that they are or were in a similar situation, it warms my heart that someone out there felt the same way. If one person out there got some courage from reading my story it is a thrill that cannot be explained.

I never intended initially to be any kind of self help guru. But if I helped one person, the feeling is indescribable, it makes me want to keep going. I…
