I am originally from Russia and I am Jewish. When I was a child in Russia even after World War II, we were not considered Russian citizens. Our passports said "Jew" and Jews were kept from being able to attend universities or kept from being able to get certain jobs. You will not learn that in a history book in any school.

Here is what's disturbing to me. Not so long ago in Nazi Germany Jews were not considered white and during the same time Jews were not desirable to live next to in America as well. Yes we now have what you can call "white privilege" though some of us for instance like myself, don't look completely "white". I personally get mistaken for a Latina all the time. We are now considered white but people like Whoopi Goldberg are ignorant about the racist politics of the Nazis. She is a perfect example of ignorant people who think of Jews as "white". I understand that I have certain privileges as "white" woman in America and the world. But the minute I tell someone who is not Jewish that I'm a Jew their whole attitude toward me changes. People say things like "Oh that's ok, I know some wonderful Jewish people" as if somehow most Jewish people are not wonderful. This is a typical antisemitic backhanded compliment. This is just a short personal example of being Jewish in America.
